Mitten: Gerald Ford
Gerald Ford grew up in Grand Rapids, and later played football at the University of Michigan. Instead of playing professionally, he attended Yale and got a law degree. After serving in World War II in the Naval Reserves, Ford was elected to Congress and became a leader in the Republican Party. He took the presidency after Nixon’s resignation, then lost to Jimmy Carter the following term.
