Follow the daring escape of Rutherford Wills, the only survivor of the Barnes-Hecker mine collapse in Ishpeming, as he finally sets foot on the surface while dark water fills the 1,000 foot mine shaft below his feet. Learn how ever present safety risks influence the mining culture and economy. Copies of “No Tears in Heaven” will be provided.
This program runs from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. on October 27, 2011. Students meet in the Museum Education Room (first floor, east wing). This program is geared to children at a 4th grade level and up. Fee is $5 per student per class.
