On the heels of hosting the first CWS event in the nation in March 2009, Michigan was notably busy during Fall 2010 with a second CWS-related conference at Grand Valley State University in October, convening of the full complement of Partners in November at the Center, the unveiling then of the website and logo, and ongoing efforts to seek and obtain funding. Since issuance of EO 2007-52, the Commission and Center had worked diligently on implementation (see the MICWS workplan for details).
As a tribute to the one-hundred-fiftieth anniversary of the Civil War, we are pleased to present the Midwest premiere of this Obie Award winning play.
I have a collection of over a 100 Civil War Letters from my great great grandfather to my great great grandmother from 1864 -1865.
The following is an interview by Jack Dempsey, chairman of the Sesquicentennial committee, of Nicky Intralan, student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit who designed the logo for the commemoration.

The legacy of the Civil War is that it brought forth a new birth of freedom for this great Nation of ours.
It is August 1864. Union prisoners-of-war languish in Camp Sumter, Georgia (also known as Andersonville). The prisoners endure appalling conditions that are steadily getting worse.
