Since 1996, the Civil War Trust has sponsored Park Day, an annual hands-on preservation event to help Civil War battlefields and historic sites take on maintenance projects large and small. Activities are chosen by each participating site to meet their own particular needs and can range from raking leaves and hauling trash to painting signs and trail building. The nationwide effort is underwritten with a grant from History™, formerly The History Channel, and is recognized by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a “Take Pride in America” event. Planned Activity: Paint, minor restoration projects on historical homes (43 buildings), remove overgrowth from moat and upper walls of Fort, clean up along fence line for public areas, plant flowers in gardens around Fort property.
