Comments: Limited space for researching allows for two genealogists at one time. Children are allowed. Birth, Death, Marriage, and Divorce Records are indexed under the Alphabetical Soundex-Code, are housed in a restricted area and searched by the staff. Microfilm viewing is only available to the public with regard to Divorce Records. Microfilm viewing of Death and Marriage Records must be employee assisted.


Births: Birth records are available only to the individual named on the birth record (registrant), the parents of the registrant, a legal guardian of the registrant, a legal representative of the registrant or an heir of the registrant. An heir is defined as any relative of a deceased individual. Heirs must supply the date and place of death of the registrant when requesting a copy. This policy is in accordance with MCL 333.2882. Birth record costs are $17.00 certified copy, $3.50 each additional and $3.00 search fee.


Deaths: Costs are $17.00 certified copy, $3.50 each additional and $3.00 search fee.


Marriages: For the years 1842 – 1848, record books that contain photocopies of the Certificate of Marriage section of the Marriage License are available for public inspection. For the years 1848-1937, books list the names of the parties at the time of the application, date of the marriage, and microfilm number. (Microfilm search must be conducted by staff). Marriage record costs are $17.00 certified copy, $3.50 each additional, and $11.00 uncertified and search fee.


Divorces: Costs are $2.25 per page, certification $10.00 plus $1.00 each page.
